About Our Give Back Programs

With offices in eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island, Larrow Insurance is dedicated to giving back to the local schools, educators and students. To help with this initiative, we offer a variety of give back programs including workshops, providing funding through DonorsChoose.org, making school donations, and offering educator awards.

Larrow Insurance offers a suite of workshops to school educators, free of charge, including:

Teachers just entering the profession often need more information on how to meet their financial goals. This workshop is aimed at helping educators examine their spending habits, reducing debt and getting on the road to financial success. A variety of topics will be covered, including developing positive spending habits; establishing good credit; the importance of a good credit score; protecting assets; and saving and preparing for retirement.

Designed to provide education on the teachers’ retirement system, a key component of retirement planning. This workshop covers topics such as the benefits that the CTRS or the ERSRI provides; how an individual’s retirement income is determined; and how pension income should fit into the overall retirement strategy.

Overcoming student loan debt can be a challenge for many educators. This workshop covers the three “R”s to financial success:

  • Remove – An individual may qualify for federal forgiveness programs to remove some or all of their debt.
  • Reduce – Loan repayment and refinance options may reduce monthly payments.
  • Redirect – Redirect savings to prepare for other life goals, such as retirement.

The quality of retirement partially depends on how well it is planned for financially. This workshop offers information on 403(b) plans, a key element to an educator’s retirement strategy. Questions answered during this session include:

  • What is a 403(b)?
  • What are the benefits of contributing to this type of plan?
  • Who is qualified to use a 403(b) plan?
  • How do I make contributions to it?

School Partnerships

Larrow Insurance is an exclusive agency of Horace Mann and shares its mission of giving back to the educational community. Horace Mann partnered with DonorsChoose.org, a crowd-funding website designed specifically for education, in order to bring teachers a solution for getting the supplies they need for their students. As a result, Larrow Insurance works closely with schools in eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island to help provide funding through DonorsChoose.org for classroom materials and projects such as books, flexible seating, art supplies, iPads and Kindles, etc. — without requiring educators to reach into their own pockets! In addition to providing funding through DonorsChoose.org, Larrow Insurance regularly donates directly to the local school districts to help motivate students to reach their full potential. Our donations, such as tablets, gift cards, bicycles, iPods, sponsored events, etc., are aimed at recognizing student achievements and used as incentives for good behavior, perfect attendance, reading projects, and many other school initiatives.

We also sponsor two educator awards; the Crystal Owl Award, and the Crystal Apple Award.

  • Crystal Owl Award – We are proud to sponsor the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year Award in many of our school districts. We provide the district with an engraved Crystal Owl Award for the deserving educators.
  • Crystal Apple Award – We also provide a Crystal Apple Award that can be engraved. This is typically given to a deserving educator in each school building. Award recipients can be selected by their peers or chosen by the administration.

Jeff Larrow has been a supporter and valued partner of Mary R. Fisher Elementary School for several years. Jeff has been gracious enough to donate Kindle Fires as incentives to increase attendance as well as information and support around Donorschoose. Through Donorschoose, staff have initiated various projects such as flex space seating, ipads, a Buddy Bench, and a stand up desk for the classroom. Twice a year information is provided to the staff on site about Horace Mann Insurance products through drawings, a lunch and Jeff’s famous prize wheel.

Larrow Insurance, as part of Horace Mann, has actively built a partnership with the Winsor community, offering the Crystal Apple Award for an outstanding staff member, and a Kindle Fire as part of our student recognition program last year. Jeff and his staff try to support our work anyway they can, offering helpful financial advice and support.

It’s always a pleasure working with Jeff Larrow both personally and professionally. He has provided my personal insurance needs and those of many of my teachers for about five years now. Jeff is excellent at his craft and has served us well with both insurance and retirement needs. Jeff has been an annual supporter of our school’s summer incentive programs and faithfully provides me with 2-3 e-readers each fall to award lucky students. Teachers know that Jeff always brings surprises when he visits such as the ever-popular prize wheel. They know that Jeff has the patience to answer our many questions and resolve any insurance issues we may have. He is always welcome in the staff lunch room! I would recommend Jeff Larrow and his associates due to his stellar work ethic and kind, considerate manner.
